Consider how my education suffered epileptic fits; today I am in school, the next day I am out, especially for want of money. I don’t want to call it poverty because the man that is poor is not the one who has no money but one without a dream. Children of destiny can never be poor, though they may experience temporary lacks.

"Before I knew it, I had gone around six different colleges in less than one year. BBC ADDRESSES WINNERS CHAPEL AS WITCHCRAFT CHURCH

A Nigerian church accused of linking poor discipline to witchcraft wants to open an independent school in Kent.

Winners’ Chapel International, which is currently under investigation by the Charity Commission, wants to open the school at its Dartford site.

Human rights campaigners and the National Secular Society are urging the government to turn down the school bid.

The church, whose leader Bishop David Oyedpo was filmed accusing a woman of being a witch, declined an interview.

The organisation, which has its headquarters in Nigeria, is known as Living Faith Church Worldwide and also Winners’ Chapel International (WCI).

Bishop Oyedepo, its leader in Nigeria, has been shown on YouTube slapping a woman and accusing her of being a witch.

His son David Oyedepo Junior is the pastor at WCI’s European headquarters in Dartford, where the church organisation wants to open Kingdom Heritage Model School for children aged four to seven.

But groups including the National Secular Society (NSS) have raised concerns amid claims the church links child “disobedience” to witchcraft – citing the David Oyedepo Ministries website, which states “disobedience is as terrible as witchcraft”.

Stephen Evans, from the NSS, said the Metropolitan Police had investigated 27 cases of child abuse related to witchcraft this year.

He said: “There’s a need to be vigilant and there’s a need to tackle this.

“You don’t do this by allowing organisations that believe in witchcraft and are associated with witch-hunting to open in the UK.”

The face-off between the Founder of Believers Love World (aka Christ Embassy) Chris Oyakhilome, and his wife, Anita, has taken a new dimension with Mr. Oyakhilome now removed as a trustee of a United Kingdom’s branch of the church.

With Mr. Oyakhilome’s removal, his wife, Anita, now presides over a seven-man Board of Trustees of the N8.2 billion rich branch, church documents reviewed by PREMIUM TIMES have shown.

The six other members of the board are Obi Chiemeka, Ifeoma Onubogu, Nkem Odiakah, Raymond Okocha, Tony Obi and Uche Onubogu, all pastors believed to be loyal to Mrs. Oyakhilome.

Mrs. Oyakhilome has for long headed the U.K branch of the church but her husband, before what appears his sudden removal, had since inception presided over the Board of Trustees of the charity.

The new development suggests that in addition to the matrimonial squabble the couples are having, an intense power struggle and battle for the soul of the U.K. branch of the church might be going on between the estranged lovers and partners as well.

In fact, Mr. Oyakhilome had dropped the first hint that there might be a hierarchical row in the church when he reportedly accused his wife of acting like an equal and wanting to overpower the authorities of the elders she met in the church.

PREMIUM TIMES’ review of documents filed by the church’s UK branch to the Charity Commission of England and Wales has now shown that Mr. Oyakhilome is no longer a registered trustee of a branch of his church with total asset worth over N8.2 billion (£31 million).

Until his recent but abrupt removal, Mr. Oyakhilome was consistently listed as a prominent trustee, since 1996, when the branch was established.

Contrary to the church’s practice of stating reasons for removal of trustees in the past, no reason has been given for the removal of Pastor Oyakhilome.

It is unclear whether explanation for the action would be given in the church’s annual report for 2013 which is yet to made public by the charity commission.

According to the church’s financial statement, in 2009, five pastors were removed from the church’s board of trustees after they resigned from their positions. That same year two others were appointed.

A Charity Commission spokesperson, Sarah Hitchings, told PREMIUM TIMES that it was not the concern of the commission to know why charities remove or replace their trustees.

The international office of Christ Embassy refused to respond to questions this newspaper sent through email neither did the international audit and accounting firm, Mazars, appointed by the Charity Commission to run the affairs of the church after it opened statutory inquiry into the finances of the church following suspicious payment it made to connected parties worth N941 million between 2008 and 2012.

However, church insiders claim the removal of the pastor was a plot by his wife to take total control of the affairs of the branch even as her relationship with her husband of two decades deteriorates.

With his ouster, those who should know said Mr. Oyakhilome has lost the locus to interfere in the affairs of that branch of the church.

“He has been effectively sidelined,” a church insider said. “The law in the U.K. does not recognise him as an interested party in that branch of the church anymore.”

Anita herself loses control

But even the seven-man board led by Mrs. Oyakhilome has itself lost control of the affairs of the church.
On August 11, the U.K. charity commission effectively sidelined her board and appointed an interim manager to take over the management of the church.

In what it described as a “temporary and protective measure,” the commission appointed Rod Weston of the international audit and accounting firm, Mazars, to take over the running of the church.

The Commission says it is investigating the church over “a number of serious concerns relating to the use of charitable funds, in particular large connected party payments and the potential misapplication of grant funding.”

Until investigation is concluded, Mr. Weston would preside “over the management of the charity, including its staff, assets, interests, and relations with third parties,” the commission said.

He is also expected to discharge the functions of the church’s trustees and take steps necessary to secure and take control of the assets of the church.

The commission however added that the activities of the church would not be suspended by the appointment as the Interim Manager is expected to work with the pastors of the church to ensure its religious and charity activities continue as before.

Divorce

Mr. Oyakhilome is locked in a divorce battle with his wife, who has filed an action at a London court to end their 20-year-old marriage.

Mrs. Oyakhilome accuses her husband of “unreasonable behaviour”, a charge Mr. Oyakhilome has repeatedly denied.
At a recent church meeting, Pastor Chris, as he is widely referred to by Christ Embassy members, warned church members against analysing the squabble between him and Anita as the church is not a political party.

He reportedly described his wife as a “bitter and angry” woman who is being influenced by bad friends who are out to seek his downfall. He accused his wife of seeking to overpower the authorities of the elders she met when she joined the Christian ministry.

As the divorce battle rages, Mrs. Oyakhilome’s profile has been pulled down from the church’s website.

Maintaining his controversial stand that the tragic collapse of a building at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) was an ‘attack’, T.B. Joshua has released new security footage of the incident through Emmanuel TV’s official YouTube channel. The new footage from a security camera stationed in the church premises shows the bottom of the building as people walk innocently around the environment. Suddenly, a huge plume of smoke is seen coming from the side of the building, bystanders running for dear life as the collapse occurs in mere seconds.

 A still picture at the end of the shocking footage shows the extent of the disaster with ‘floors piled on top of each other’. Through a Facebook post, the embattled cleric reiterated that, while co-operating with the ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal collapse, “The church views this tragedy as part of an attack on The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations.” The SCOAN had earlier warned media not to pre-empt the investigation with ‘unconfirmed stories’ that ‘give the impression the collapse was due to structural failure’.

PASTOR ADEBOYE APOLOGISES TO CONGREGATION SAYS GOD WILL SHAME THOSE WORKING AGAINST THE CHURCH

There is a saying that “when an issue is more than a crying matter, we tend to laugh over it.” This can be equated to the reaction of the general overseer (GO) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye popularly called Daddy GO by nearly all Christians in the country during the recently concluded Annual Convention of the church at the Redemption Camp headquarters of the church when he openly apologized to the entire congregation over the failure to meet up with the promise to finish the construction of its 1.5 million-seat auditorium commissioned last year.

According to Pastor Adeboye, the inability of the church to complete the project at the stipulated time is due to interference by some of the church pastors who are hell-bent on making sure that the plan fails. Recall that Global News reported sometime back how the pastors of the church were blocking progress of work at the construction site for the fact that the GO did not put them in charge of the building project, which means they will not be able to mismanage the funds earmarked for it as it had been their ways on other projects in the past.

It is worthy to note that the uncompleted Good Shepherd Pasture Parish, Yaba, which has been on for more than the stipulated period was due to the love for material gains over thing that are godly, by the pastors put in charge for. The building, which sources revealed, was initially planned to be completed with a budget in the region of N200million, we gathered, is now said to require an additional amount in excess of N100million before it could be completed.

The many atrocities of these pastors have made the members wary of trusting them with their money, a thing that was partly responsible for the delay in the completion of the Boun, Ogun State-located auditorium of the church. And this much was made known by Pastor Adeboye in the convention when he was telling the people to try and fulfill their promises towards the project stating that it was only just about three members who had fulfilled their promise towards the new building project.

He promised that by the grace of God the next convection would be held in the new auditorium barring any further issues, including interference from the church pastors who are known to have, in their bid to raise money, formed alliance with some miscreants to disrupt construction works on the site on the pretext that the land belongs to them.

Going by the new deadline fixed by the GO and knowing the grouse of the pastors, the man of God is set for another round of showdown with this set of troublesome pastors who would rather worship money than follow the way the Bible has laid down for them to follow.

Rescuers were still busy yesterday at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Ikotun on the outskirts of Lagos where a building collapsed, killing 44 persons —as of yesterday.

When the incident happened on Friday, 17 were said to have died.

Many are believed to be trapped underneath the six-storey building.

The church has declined comments on the number of persons in the building when it collapsed. Besides, it insists that nobody died in the incident.

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola was at the scene yesterday. He called for an inquiry.

Government officials have said there was no approval for the Attention of additional floors.

Commissioner for Physical Planning Olutoyin Ayinde, who was on Fashola’s entourage, said the church’s engineers were yet to present their permit to make such modifications.

Ayinde said: “Our meeting with the prophet was a closed-door meeting but it surrounds the collapsed building. It is a sad situation; lives have been lost and many others have been rescued.

“We use this opportunity to express our sympathy to the affected people.

“We have no proof that the church had permit to add to the existing structure. We have asked the engineering team to meet us and for about two hours now, no member of the team has come.

“We also have questions for them. Even if the building does not have approval, it ought to be built professionally. We have asked for their team and we hope in the course of the week, they would get to us.

“It is necessary to take the final inventory before we can say the number of people affected. Right now, we do not know how many people are involved. When a final inventory has been taken, the ministry of special duties will take a decision as regards relieve,” he added.

On whether the ýgovernment plans to seal the premises, Ayinde said: “There are no plans for that yet until investigation as to the cause of the collapse has been concluded.

“I have said I have no proof of a permit. Maybe they have one and are yet to show us. We will give them the opportunity to defend themselves and action can only be taken after investigation has been concluded.”

But the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mrs. Abimbola Animashaun, affirmed that the church had no approval.

She said: “We have investigated and found that they had no approval for the additional structures. Even the main church, which they have added about three floors on, was sealed two days ago, but it is now open.

”You cannot have an existing building and start putting up more buildings on it. Before you can do anything like that, you must confirm that the structure is still stable and can stand additional buildings.”

The Nation gathered that the collapsed building, which was a three-storey that had another three added to it, had been vibrating for sometime before it collapsed.

It was also gathered that over 200 people were in the building, most of them having lunch at the basement, while the construction workers were on the sixth floor.

There were many foreigners, according to sources.

Mattresses, clothes and other household items, including air-conditionersý, were seen lying in the rubble of the building. Besides, a foul odour oozed out of the site.

Fumigants were being distributed to the workers.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Red Cross, medical personnel from the state and federal governments and Lagos State Building Inspection Agency personnel were all at the site as excavation continued.

The workers were on the sixth floor, cutting the rods to create an opening to into other floors.

The Nation gathered that all the 130 people rescued alive and the 44 dead were removed from the sixth floor and the basement, which are the only areas the workers have been able to access.

It was also observed that most of the pillars of the collapsed building were still standing.

Confirming the death toll, NEMA’s Southwest spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the cause of the collpase was still being investigated.

“We were able to work overnight and so, as at now (6pm), we have 130 rescued alive and 44 dead. Nobody can say what caused the collapse. But from the footage shown to me, where all the foundation of the building was shaking before it caved in, it could have been caused by the additional structure.

“Investigations will confirm what really happened. You can see that some of the beams and blocks are still intact. So, some of the permutations cannot be ruled out.

“We are working on worst case scenario that the foundation might have been weakened, which would have led to the collapse.”

Facts have emerged at the weekend that the ground on which Pastor Anita Oyakhilome is seeking to divorce her husband, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the President of Believers’ Love World Inc., popularly known as Christ Embassy, is not adultery but on behaviours that suggest that she cannot ‘reasonably be expected’ to  live with him.

There had been media reports that Anita decided to divorce Pastor Chris based on allegations of ‘adultery’ and ‘unreasonable behaviours’ but a copy of the  court papers for the divorce process filed at the  Principal Registry of the Family Division (PRFD) of  the High Court of Justice in possession of THISDAY,  revealed that she applied for “divorce on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.”
In her statement of case in support of petition at PRFD with number FD14001650, Pastor Anita however, accused her husband of having inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members.

According to the statement, “the wife has discussed with the husband his appropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances.”

In fact, the statement indicated no allegation of adultery as there was no co-respondent to the petition and no names were mentioned.
Dictionary.com defines adultery as “voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse.”
The statement reads in part: “The wife submits that her marriage to the husband has irretrievably broken down and there is no hope of reconciliation. The wife will submit that it is the husband’s unreasonable behaviours which have led to this.

“The husband and the wife are both Pastors. The husband undertakes his work, in the main, in South Africa and Nigeria. The wife lives in the United Kingdom. The wife will say that they have lived separately for 16 years and over this time have drifted apart. The wife has come to realise that the husband will only visit the UK for annual church programmes that he holds rather than to be with this wife. The wife feels that he has been unavailable as a father to their children during their developing years.

“The wife feels that their marriage suffered under the pressure of their work. They would rarely spend time together due to the husband unavailability. Special occasions such as Christmas, Birthdays and family occasions and anniversaries past them by and their rarely spent any time together as a family as the husband was more devoted to his work than he was to them.

“The wife feels that she has been used to portray and enhance the husband’s image as a family man when the reality is that there is no existing relationship between them. She feels that she has been present for official functions simply for his convenience. On occasions she has been copied into his travel itinerary which has been given to him by his staff on a need to know basis.
“The wife has tried to discuss her concerns with the husband. He claims that she is carnal and he is insensitive to her feelings and her needs.”

“As a result of the husband’s attitude to their marriage, the wife will say that he is virtually not recognised as a married man in the ministry. His teachings and beliefs on marriage is that the husband is a master and a controller and the wife will say that his concept of biblical; submission is so extreme that it is impossible for her to meet his expectations. She feels humiliated by the way he treats her in the presence of his close female staff members and she feels that she has been taken for granted which has become unbearably stressful for her.

“The wife will say that the relationship with  the husband is non-existent to the point that his itinerary which was announced  publicly at the beginning of the year had no provision for time with his family. His staff members who travel with him organise both his personal and professional life without any input from her. The wife will say that she is treated with disregard almost like akin to an intruder.
“The wife feels that she has been mentally, physically and emotionally deprived of the experience of a marital relationship. Music producer Suge Knight has been injured during a shooting at a glamourous awards show party in a Los Angeles nightclub hosted by singer Chris Brown, it has been reported.

Witnesses said 25-year-old singer, who is still on parole following his recent release from jail, had been the target of shots fired at the 1OAK club in West Hollywood, where he was hosting a pre-party for tonight's Video Music Awards.

Brown was thought to be unhurt, but three other victims - among them Death Row Records founder Marion 'Suge' Knight, 49, were reportedly taken to the city's Cedars Sinai hospital.

One of them was said to be in a critical condition.

Model and actor Tyson Beckford, and Black Eyed Peas member Apple de Ap were inside the pre-VMA party hosted by Brown and told TMZ they had heard four shots being fired at around 1.30am today. 

Black Kapital Records CEO Knight was said to have walked out of the club, where he was spotted by a police officer and taken to hospital by ambulance.

He was reportedly shot twice, injuring his stomach and arm, and is now undergoing surgery. 

The suspected gunmen were apprehended by police, as officers searched the nightspot for clues and quizzed revellers over the events of the night. 

Roads around the nightclub were immediately sealed off by police, as the nightclub was evacuated, with several partygoers detained for questioning.

Guests at the event had also included singer Justin Bieber and rapper The Game.

Katie Clendon, thought to have been inside the club, said via her Twitter account that she thought Brown had been the intended target. 

'Literally can't believe what I just witnessed. Someone tried to fire shots at Chris Brown at 1oak. Speechless.'

She added: 'Prayers to all those harmed by this. Honestly still in disbelief this happened.' 

In the moments after the shots were fired, Brown was seen climbing onto what appeared to be a bar in the nightclub, apparently angrily remonstrating with other clubgoers as a bouncer told partygoers to 'Get down'.

Australian model Simone Holtznagel revealed she was at10AK's Pre-VMAs party when the shots were fired.

The former Australia's Next Top Model finalist took to social media to reveal she and fellow model friend Chloe Lloyd were within the vicinity, with Chloe also sharing the fact that the pair sought cover in a toilet cubicle when the incident occurred.

'Me and @MOANNN sort refuge in a toilet cubicle as rifles targeted Chris brown & bieber outside. #usa, (sic)' Chloe wrote on her Twitter account, tagging Simone in the social media post. 

A controversial figure, Knight is no stranger to the effects of gun violence.

His friend Tupac Shakur was shot multiple times during a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996, although during a previous visit to 1OAK in May, Knight told reporters that no one had ever been charged with Shakur's murder because he wasn't really dead, and was instead living on an island.

Knight also suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during a shooting at a 2005 pre-VMA party, hosted by rapper Kanye West.

Owned by New York-based Butter Group, the Los Angeles branch of 1OAK  - which stands for One Of A Kind - is a spin off of the New York club, while there are further branches in Las Vegas and Mexico City.

The club, which bills itself as 'Bringing a New York nightclub experience to Los Angeles' has been open on the famous Sunset Strip since the start of the year and has proved popular with many celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Rihanna.

Last night's party at the club was a precursor to tonight's MTV Video Music Awards, which takes place from 6pm local time at LA's recently redeveloped Inglewood Forum.
