A bus conveying ttravellersfrom Port Harcourt to Uyo plunged into a river near Nigerian Army Barracks, Ibagwa. According to reports, the Toyota Hiace bus belonging to ‘To and Fro’ transport company, was hit by a SUV which made it fall into the river.
Eye witnesses report that the driver of the SUV was on top speed, trying to avoid a bad spot on the road when he hit the bus. The driver also ran away immediately he saw the damage he had done. Onlookers could do nothing but watch as the bus sank into the river. Over the weekend, the Police and FRSC went with a crane to haul out the bus from the river. 2 persons in the bus survived, but 11, including a mother and her 2 children all drowned.
